Identifying Critical Quality Defects on a Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Project

The Challenge

During construction of a utility-scale renewable energy project, concerns emerged regarding installation quality, QA/QC consistency and the potential for latent defects to impact long-term asset performance and operational reliability.

Early warning signs indicated that isolated issues may reflect wider systemic problems across elements of the construction and installation works.

PGC’s Role

PGC was engaged to provide targeted quality assurance, construction review and technical assessment support to identify the root causes of the issues and support corrective action before defects became operational failures.

Our involvement included:

  • Undertaking focused construction quality inspections and site reviews
  • Identifying recurring installation and workmanship issues across multiple work fronts
  • Assessing potential impacts on long-term asset performance and reliability
  • Reviewing QA/QC procedures, reporting and contractor quality controls
  • Supporting the identification, tracking and management of non-conformities
  • Developing practical remediation and corrective action strategies with project stakeholders

Outcome

PGC’s involvement enabled early identification and resolution of critical quality issues before they developed into more significant operational or warranty-related failures.

Our review supported improvements in site quality controls, contractor accountability and defect management processes, helping protect long-term asset performance, operational reliability and project value through practical, delivery-focused intervention.
